This was a meeting with much information, and no fireworks. I will mention just two of the less routine agenda items.

The Health Insurance Committee's recommendation was approved. The study was begun some months ago when it became obvious that health insurance costs were sky-rocketing. The details are complex but the committee decided a type of "cafeteria plan" would be the best solution at this point.

The cities of Northfield and Lonsdale presented their plans and requests for County support as they applied for inclusion in Region 9's Tax Free Zone application. (Remember, this was one of Gov. Pawlenty's ideas for speeding Minnesota's economic recovery.) Last week Faribault had presented its application. The Commissioners voted to support all the applications. Northfield's JOBZ Zones are: the former Ryteway property located on the back road to Dundas; Lot 1, Block 1 of Sheldahl Industrial Park off north Highway 3 ; and the MDC Development Gleason site in Riverview Addition, south on Highway 3, near the Cannon River.
