April 3, 2008
This was the last meeting for the LWV Northfield and Cannon Falls 2007-08 Board.
Cannon Falls Update:
Allene Moesler provided the Cannon Falls update, reporting that the Library issue is an ongoing concern in the town. Allene had heard of a local Forum about the proposed CAPX Energy Transmission lines: Bev Topp, who is a candidate for the Legislature in District 26B, is very involved in that issue. Suzie suggested that this would be a good topic for a local LWV Forum in Northfield for next year.
2008-2009 Slate:
Eve Webster will meet with the Nominations Committee (Janet, Suzannah Ciernia and Georgiana Campbell) before the Annual Meeting, set for the morning of April 26th, to identify candidates for the Voter Education Committee and complete the slate for next year’s on Board and Off Board positions.
Upcoming events announcements from LWVMN:
“State of Democracy Forum” at the U of M, Wednesday, April 30th 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. designed as a planning forum to create a framework for the State of Democracy Project. LWVMN has asked Kathy T whether we will be sending anyone to this planning meeting. The LWV will waive registration fee for this event. Kathy T gave the program information to see if any students from St. Olaf would like to attend from Northfield, since the $25 registration fee is being waived.
State Council 2008 at the MN Landscape Arboretum, May 3: Allene will plan
to attend.
Eve Webster will review and decide whether she will attend the LWVUS Convention in Portland, June 13-18.
Annual Meeting:
The agenda for the Annual Meeting Saturday, April 26, 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., United Methodist Church, 1401 Maple was reviewed and approved. Catherine Christian will send out an email reminder to the membership of the meeting a week before the meeting
Dues:
Janet Petri and Barbara Wilson will be sending out an email dues reminder before the Annual Meeting that will include the various dues levels and remind those members who are able to attend the Annual Meeting to bring their checkbooks. There will be pre-addressed envelopes for members to take home with them if they forgot to bring their checkbooks.
Candidate Recruitment Brochure:
Judy Covey has done a terrific job updating the Candidate Recruitment brochure on how to run for office in Northfield. She will get a final printed and have a box of 200 delivered to the Annual meeting for distribution.
