What's Wrong With Our Health Care System and How Do We Fix It?

Come to St. Olaf College in Northfield MN on November 15 to increase your knowledge and explore this question.

When: Saturday, November 15, 2008 2-4 p.m.

Where: St. Olaf College, Buntrock Commons, Black and Gold Ballroom, Top Floor

[Directions: To Northfield from Minneapolis/St. Paul: Take I-35 South to Hwy 19 (Exit 69). Turn left onto Hwy 19. Go about 8 miles—take a left at the St. Olaf College sign. Follow this road and at the top of the hill, take a right and go past Hoyme Hall (on your left). Keep following the road, staying to the right until you come to Buntrock Commons. There is a large parking lot on the right. Enter the main door; take the stairs or elevator to the top floor. ]

This event has been planned by senior pre-medicine students in a Biomedical Ethics class. Featured will be a panel of experts on the various aspects surrounding our U.S. health care system, such as health care disparities, insurance dilemmas, and reasons for the rising costs of health care. Panelists include:

Jan Malcolm: former Minnesota Commissioner of Health and CEO of the Courage Center, a nonprofit organization for people with disabilities

Ellie Garrett: Assistant Director of Health Policy and Public Health for the Minnesota Center for Health Care Ethics

Angela Koch: Director of Health Finders in Northfield

Karen Gervais: Director of the Minnesota Center for Health Care Ethics and Ethics professor at St. Olaf; also a Director on the Board of LWVNCF.

Following the panelists' presentations, there will be small-group discussions with the panelists, as well as a final large-group discussion.
