DEPAC ( District Educational Program Advisory Committee) presented its annual report. Its goals for next year include establishing essential learnings for all students, developing formative assessments and standards of proficiency. Systematic interventions will be in place to support students who have not met the outcomes, and for those who need enrichment. Connectedness among students, families and staff will be cultivated.
PrimeTime – Marnie Thompson and Pat Parlin presented a request for continued support for this program that helps students with academic skills, leadership, and future planning. Students also provided testimonials.
Northfield Area YMCA proposed a collaborative project in which they would provide facilities for recreation and sports to be located on property near the high school. The Board made it clear that they could assume no financial obligations in connection with such a project, and wanted to be sure that future district space needs would be factored in to consideration of this project. Traffic concerns also need careful attention.
School Board election: Terms of Mike Berthelsen, Kari Nelson and Noel Stratmoen will expire on December 31, 2010. These are 4-year positions. Julie Pritchard occupies a Board position by appointment, and that term (to which Diane Cirksena was elected and subsequently resigned) is to be completed by a person elected for the period January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012. Filings are open from August 3 through August 17th at the District office.
With great regret and appreciation, the Board approved the resignation of Tom Stringer, Director of Business Affairs, effective November 30, 2010. He has done a remarkable job for the District.
