Issues

During the second half of our year, LWVNCF will continue focusing on Health Care Reform (click on “Universal Health Care” below).  Next April, we’re planning a multi-League forum on “Public Engagement & Our Health Care Future.” The event, organized by LWVNCF Health Committee member Karen Gervais, will be led by two nationally-known experts on community consensus-building. Other Health Committee members are informing Northfielders about the contents of the Minnesota Health Plan.

In March, League and Nfld School Board member Diane Cirksena will use Mindy Greiling’s “MN Miracle” bill to help us understand the issue of equity in state funding of education.   See Diane’s excellent letter on our Blog by clicking below on “Education Financing”.

Two February programs coming up:  On February 13th we will give a League Appreciation Party for elected officials, both to thank them and to encourage communication among officials and between government and citizens.  At the end of February, League V.P. Jessica Peterson will offer a seriously fun Saturday morning seminar on Robert’s Rules of Order to help officials and all of us understand how clear, open procedure improves government.

If you are a member of the League and are interested in participating in our Observers program, click on “Local Government” below.

On Saturday morning, January 24th, 2008, members of LWVNCF will get together to plan a new program in state and local issues for next yea
