All members were present. Kathleen Doran-Norton used the Public
Comment opportunity to encourage the Board to consider composting
kitchen waste from the school cafeterias as a way to mitigate the
pressure on the landfill, and to promote environmental responsibility.
Another district got some recent publicity for their efforts in this
connection.
Superintendent Chris Richardson recognized the program “To China and
Back” which attracted nearly 600 people on Saturday evening, and
generated funds to support the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
Northfield has had 175 exchanges over the years.
The Mayor’s Youth Council presented a video they had made which
portrayed Northfield as a community with many connections for young
people. This video helped Northfield to win a national competition to
identify the nations “100 Best Communities for Youth”. It was an
impressive presentation, and deserves to been seen by a wide audience.
The Board unanimously agreed to participate in the Thursday’s Table
project to provide an evening meal once a week to low income
households.
Revised budget figures are generally good - predictions were quite
good, and some expected costs have come in as less than expected.
