LWV Observer - Georgiana Campbell
In a meeting this Tuesday of less than 60 minutes, the commissioners settled some important Rice County business. There was a long list of Commissioner/Committee appointments for the new year, and the commissioners for the most part chose to keep their last year’s appointments, changing only those that would involve a time conflict. Commissioners also elected officers of the Board of Commissioners as follows: Chair Person - Galen Malecha, Co-Chairman - Milt Plaisance
Meeting dates and times for 2009 were set, and remained the same as for 2008.
Roberts Rules of Order were adopted as the group’s operating procedures.
Bids for designation of Rice County’s official newspaper were opened. Discussion by the commissioners indicated that $8,000 had been spent by the County to cover printing needed notices in the Faribault / Northfield newspapers. Commissioners were concerned with the cost of these notices, especially in light of the county’s current tight budget. They discussed the possibility of discontinuing publishing notices in the papers, and how possible it is for people to get the same information from the County’s web site. The commissioners will discuss the issue further. They will also consult with the County Attorney as to the legality of changing the procedure. A decision will be reached at a later date.
Last week the commissioners interviewed those individuals wishing to be on the Planning Commission or Board of Adjustment. This week the commissioners voted to determine which of those interviewed would serve on those important groups. Appointed were:
3-Year Term Gordon Kelley-
Kim Halvorson 2 Year Term Tom Sammon 1 Year Term Dianne Tousignant

I think Ben Miller got a one-year spot (someone resigned early) on the Planning Commission and Diane Tousignant got the Bd of Adjustment spot. Please double check.
