Announcements & Recognitions
WINGS has made another generous gift to the school district.
All Things Considered reported on the book produced by Northfield 8th graders about the Jesse James raid called Caught in the Storm. Earl Weinman and the Northfield Historical Society worked with students to produce this impressive account of local history.
Certificates were presented to the new board members, Jeff Quinnell, Ellen Iverson, and Anne Maple, for completing the leadership development course the state School Boards Association has made available.
High School students traveled to China this summer, and Board Chair Kari Nelson expressed the gratitude of the district for Carleton’s cooperation in making this a wonderful experience for the participants.
Individual Actions:
1. awarded a contract for Sibley School construction to Greystone Construction of Shakopee, whose bid came in about 20% lower than estimated costs – saving about $800,000. This project will be funded from operating capital reserves and federal stimulus funds.
2. awarded a contract for asbestos removal at Greenvale to JC Environmental of Little Canada,
3. awarded a contract to Bierman Floor Coverings of Northfield for carpet and flooring replacement at Greenvale.
4. awarded a contract to replace freezer and cooler at Sibley to Healy Construction of Faribault.
5. agreed that school will be in session on Christopher Columbus Day.
6. agreed that the Truth in Taxation public hearing can be incorporated in the regular meeting of the Board on November 23, rather than hold a separate session in early December as has been done in the past.
7. awarded contracts for high school rewiring, and for refuse and recycling hauling.
These items, and the Consent grouping, were passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
