The election season is upon us now that Labor Day 2004 is past. The
Northfield League of Women Voters offers several opportunities for you
to hear the candidates speak for themselves on a wide range of issues.
You are cordially invited, indeed, urged to attend the September 7th
candidates’ forum featuring candidate who are running in primary
races including Northfield mayor, 2nd District County Commissioner,
and District 1. The forum is THIS Tuesday from 7-9 PM in the City Council
chambers at 8th and Washington Sts.
The Northfield LWV will also host a candidates’ fair of all the
candidates running in the general election on Saturday, October 2nd
from 10 AM to 2 PM in Bridge Square in downtown Northfield. The
Cannon Falls Area League unit will host a candidates’ walk-about forum
in Cannon Falls on Saturday, October 16th. More on those two events
later.
Meanwhile, we remind you that the League has been in the candidates’
forum business for over 50 years and has set the gold standard for
issue-oriented, non-partisan debates that allow the candidates to
speak for themselves and the voters to question the candidates
directly. The Northfield League recently reaffirmed its non-partisan
policy, which states that the Northfield League will not support or
endorse any political party or candiate. We appreciate that some
folks may confuse our political activity or civic engagement with
partisan politics. We encourage those and others to join the League
and engage themselves in the “informed and active participation” that
gives the League its energy and perspective.
