January 23 4th Monday to Digest “Food In Our Schools”

Kiffi Summa, 4th Monday Coordinator

The Northfield League of Women Voters (LWV) continues it’s public meeting series titled “4th Mondays.”

The topic for the January meeting is “Food In Our Schools.” How do you feel about the meals served in our public schools? Do they mimic fast food too closely to provide healthy choices and good nutrition? Some school districts have rejected the pizza/chicken nugget philosophy in favor of salad bars and more nutritious selections, and, they’re saving money by doing so. How do you feel about soda vending machines in the schools?

Every fourth Monday of each month at 7 pm, in the Northfield Public Library’s first floor meeting room, the LWV hosts a lightly moderated discussion of interest the community. Meetings will end promptly at 8:45 PM. This month’s 4th Monday is January 23rd.

Generally the League takes no position on these topics and is hosting these meetings to enable ideas and voices to be heard. Each month’s topic will be announced on the Northfield Library Bulletin Board and the week before the meeting in the Northfield News.

The League’s goal is to stimulate public involvement and enable citizens’ voices … to share information, gather input, and encourage civic participation in the defining issues of our community.

Recent 4th Monday topics have included discussion on: The Open Meeting Laws - Zero factor in Auto Related Deaths - Highway 35 & County Road 1 Development plans……..

All meetings are open to the public. Call 663-6097 for further information.
