Observer, Marcia Walters
The commissioners continue to wrestle with shoreland development. In January, they declared a moratorium on construction along water bodies in Rice County. The current ordinance allows for many housing units to be constructed if certain conditions were met. To avoid overbuilding and the threat to the environment, the commissioners are developing new regulations. They agreed they would attempt to achieve this before the end of the year when the moratorium expires and when Jessica Petersen is replaced on the board.
The remainder of the meeting dealt with routine business, including the approval of the Rice County investment policy which attempts to focus on safe investments.
