Following on a motion by the LWV board on November 8, League representatives Suzie Nakasian and Eve Webster met with the Charter Commission on November 20 to propose that the Commission take steps, in partnership with the League, to increase public awareness of the function of the City Charter, particularly those sections relating to local governance structure. Nakasian and Webster proposed that the Commission consider writing an open letter to the community encouraging public readership of the Charter and those sections of the City Code that relate to local governance structure and that the Commission distribute the proposed letter to the Northfield residents by incuding it in the City Commons that is mailed with water bills. Members of the Charter Commission received the LWV proposal favorably and called a follow-up meeting with LWV representatives for Tuesday December 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., in City Hall, 2nd Floor Conference Room to discuss this proposal at greater length. More information will be available after that meeting.
The City Charter and City Code are easily accessed on the City Web site

Locally Grown has a new “documents” section (http://locallygrownnorthfield.org/documents/) which also includes the City charter in downloadable PDF form, which some people may find easier to download and print. (We will create a new PDF whenever there’s a change to the charter).
