Rice County Board of Commissioners meeting November 14, 2023

As announced, at 8:00 am, prior to the regular meeting of the Rice County Board on the second Tuesday of each month, the Board was open to comments and questions from the public, but no one appeared on November 14 during this period.
At 8:30, the regular meeting was called to order by Commissioner Steve Underdahl,
Chairperson. Members present were: Purfeerst, Malecha, Underdahl, Docken and Hoisington.
After the usual formalities, the agenda was followed and nothing of note occurred.
From ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES, Julie Runkel requested action on various waivers and
permits, including closure of a private landfill. She reported briefly on the French Lake Water
Quality Improvement Pilot Project.
On PROPERTY TAX & ELECTIONS, Denise Anderson asked for action approving two local
lake-side property tax assessments.
Deb Purfeerst reported on a COMMUNITY HEALTH BOARD grant contract for the Teen and
Childhood Checkup program, which coordinates access to many programs.
Rick Gieseke from SOCIAL SERVICES presented school transportation contracts for children in foster care to attend their schools of origin, namely Nerstrand Charter School and Cannon River STEM School. He also asked for approval of funding from MN DHS to provide behavioral health evaluations to children in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.
Matt Verdick from the PARKS & FACILITIES DEPARTMENT asked for action to purchase two
new vehicles. In response to a question he said the proceeds from discarded vehicles go to the department that had discarded the vehicle.
Sheriff Jesse Thomas asked that the board approve accepting a federal grant to purchase
specified items to enhance recreational boating safety.
All requests were approved unanimously.
Administrator Sara Folsted presented the consent agenda, which was also approved.
The meeting was adjourned about 9 am.
