Observer Report: Rice County Board of Commissioners Work Session, 6.18.24

Information Technology: Allan King 

Annual report: To help all departments use technology to better support everyone in the county system. Reviewed infrastructure, staff, IT services (network, data, communications, security, project management and support, compliance, license management, Rice Steele Dispatch support). Discussed recent year trends (cybersecurity a top priority, hardware costs have stabilized, service tickets have leveled off, vendors moving to subscription, VDI complications). Looking forward: security priority, Microsoft 365 (move to soon), VDI will continue to both point of pain and strength for Rice County users and IT, continue to be proactive in the systems. 

Highway: Dennis Luebbe 

Updates for the Board: Monitoring County roads, flooding due to recent heavy rains. (22.46 inches YTD per the DNR Precipitation chart. Normal is 14.59 inches). Crews are checking for flooding, culverts that have been damaged or plugged, ditches full of water and debris, road or bridge damage, etc.  

Fully staffed with recent hires, one engineering position remains open. 

County Road 38 work expected to begin after July 4. Everything has been delayed due to the weather.  

Behind schedule on the roundabout at highway 19 due to the weather, but storm sewer system is in, the island is taking shape. There have not been any unforeseen problems to date.
