We the People Demand a Hearing on the For the People Act

In the Senate, the For the People Act faces an uphill battle. But we know that because of the tremendous work we’ve already done to mobilize the effort around this bill, that we can move this forward.

It is important for the American people to understand what issues their Senators have with this legislation. The American people deserve to know why their Senators don’t want to ensure that every eligible citizen being able to register and vote. They deserve to know what harm will be caused by taking the politics out of redistricting. Finally, they deserve to know why we should be allowing big money interests to hide in the shadows and influence the votes of the American people.

Sample letter:

Dear Senator—

I stand with the League of Women Voters in calling for a hearing on the For the People Act (S. 949). The provisions in the For the People Act will modernize our election system, reform redistricting, restore the Voting Rights Act, and improve transparency in our elections. The For the People Act will improve American elections by making our election system more free, fair, and accessible to all eligible Americans.

This legislation is a power grab by the American people. It’s time for a bold, transformative set of reforms that will strengthen our democracy and put power back in the hands of the American people. Please call for a hearing on the For the People Act. The American people deserve to have this bill move forward with the committee hearing in the U.S. Senate.
