The For the People Act is the democracy reform bill the American people want and deserve. It includes reforms that the League has spent decades advocating for. This legislation will put power back into the hands of American voters by removing barriers to voting, restoring the ballot to formerly incarcerated individuals, and modernizing future elections.
The For the People Act will fundamentally strengthen our democratic system by restoring the Voting Rights Act, modernizing our voter registration system, establishing clear criteria and transparency to prevent gerrymandering, and making campaign contributions transparent. As an organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy, the League of Women Voters is one of the original supporters of the For the People Act. Day and night, League members have fought for this bill, and now we are just one critical step away from making history. It is long last time to return power back to the hands of the American people.
